Damascus: Louis Faris, the Syrian Vice President, Mr. Abdel Halim Khaddam, met yesterday with MP René Moawad and engaged in a one-and-a-half-hour discussion regarding the presidential candidacy and developments in the Lebanese arena. Following the meeting, Moawad announced that Khaddam had assured him that the elections would proceed as scheduled.

Afterward, Khaddam had an hour-long meeting with Elie Hobeika, the head of the “Executive Authority of the Lebanese Forces in Zahle and the Bekaa.” Subsequently, he met with MPs Jamil Kabi, Zaki Mazboudi, and Talal Al-Maraabi, and then with Dr. Samir Sabbagh, the President of the Nasserite Unionist Assembly.

Furthermore, Khaddam received a visit from Dr. Amin Al-Khalil, who delivered a message from his father, MP Kazem Al-Khalil. Additionally, he received a letter from President Adil Asiran, which was conveyed by his son Ali Asiran, discussing the ongoing developments in the Lebanese arena and the presidential elections.

In another development, Nabih Berri, the leader of the “Amal” movement, received candidate MP René Moawad in Damascus yesterday afternoon to discuss the upcoming presidential candidacy. Furthermore, Berri met with a delegation from the Lebanese community in Ghana and Guinea.

Yesterday, Princess Khawla Arslan, accompanied by her son Prince Talal, also arrived in Damascus to meet with Khaddam.
