Syria’s foreign minister warned today the recently concluded U.S.-Israeli stategic cooperation agreement was a ‘dangerous strategic change’ in the Middle East.

Foreign Minister Abdel Halim Khddam, ending two days of talks in Abu Dhabi, said Syria and the United Arab Emirates agreed on the need for greater Arab unity to confront the U.S.-Israeli agreement.

The U.S.-Israeli agreement, reached after meetings last week in Washington between Prime Minister Menachem Begin and President Reagan, calls for joint maneuvers between the two countries and the stockpiling of medical supplies in Israel.

Khaddam, who is touring several Gulf states, said in a departure statement that inter-Arab contacts were underway to ‘face this dangerous situation and its future consequences.’

The Syrian official said his country will present the matter to the next Arab summit conference, scheduled for November in Morocco.
