Following his meeting with Syrian President Hafez al-Assad and delivering a message from Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir, Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Osman Ismail held talks in Damascus yesterday with Syrian Vice President Abdul-Halim Khaddam. The discussions covered the stalled peace process in the Middle East and the obstinate Israeli policy that hinders this process, posing serious threats to the region.

Both Khaddam and Ismail emphasized the importance of strengthening the unified Arab position “to confront Israeli obstinacy,” according to official sources.

On Sunday, Ismail signed an agreement with Syrian Minister of Economy Mohammed al-Imadi to establish a joint ministerial committee tasked with monitoring the implementation of agreements between the two countries, especially in the economic and political fields.
