Former Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam said in an interview within the Al-Istehqaq program on Al-Mustaqbal TV yesterday that “Hezbollah’s authority is in Tehran, and therefore the directives were for it to move, and what is happening now comes within this framework.”
The greatest sin committed by Hezbollah is that it is being used to harm the Lebanese homeland and the Lebanese people,” stressing that “Iran aims to be in advanced positions in the region so that it can defend its strategy not through its land but through other powers, and its strategy extends from the Mediterranean to Central Asia.”
Khaddam pointed out, “After the formation of the international investigation committee into the assassination of martyr Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, Bashar al-Assad became very concerned that the investigation would lead to revealing the truth, and therefore he became very afraid and in need of protection. Therefore, he tried with some parties other than Iran to find a way to a settlement with... The Americans were on the basis that he would provide them with everything they wanted in exchange for closing the investigation file, but this issue failed, and the option before him became to escalate the situation in Lebanon. Therefore, there were many statements after the formation of the investigation committee about breaking up Lebanon and destroying and blowing up Lebanon, but he could not obstruct the investigation procedures or Formation of an international court.
