The Saudi-Syrian talks, presided over by His Majesty King Fahd bin Abdulaziz, may his soul rest in peace, and His Excellency Syrian President Hafez al-Assad, began at the Royal Diwan in Jeddah. On the Saudi side, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Prime Minister, Chief of the Council of Ministers, and Chief of the National Guard, as well as His Royal Highness Prince Saud al-Faisal, Minister of Foreign Affairs, were present. On the Syrian side, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdul-Halim Khaddam was present.
Earlier, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of the National Guard, visited His Excellency Syrian President Hafez al-Assad at his residence.
His Royal Highness the Crown Prince discussed several matters of mutual interest with President Hafez al-Assad.
Additionally, His Royal Highness Prince Saud al-Faisal, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdul-Halim Khaddam.
During the meeting, various matters of mutual interest and bilateral relations between the two countries were discussed. President Hafez al-Assad had arrived in Jeddah for a visit to the Kingdom. His Majesty King Fahd bin Abdulaziz was at the forefront of those welcoming President Assad at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of the National Guard, also welcomed him, along with His Royal Highness Prince Majed bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Mecca.
As soon as the plane landed, Mr. Ahmed Abdul Wahab, the Chief of Royal Protocol, and the Syrian Ambassador to the Kingdom, Mohammad al-Tall, boarded to greet President Assad and accompany him during disembarkation.
Upon descending the airplane stairs, President Assad embraced His Majesty King Fahd, shook hands with His Royal Highness Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, and His Royal Highness Prince Majed bin Abdulaziz.
Subsequently, His Majesty the King and his distinguished guest proceeded to the honor platform, where the national anthems of Syria and Saudi Arabia were played. Then, President Assad shook hands with the welcoming delegation, led by His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Rahman bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Minister of Defense, and several ministers and senior officials, both civilian and military.
Afterward, His Majesty the King accompanied his distinguished guest to the palace prepared for him. President Assad was accompanied by a delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdul-Halim Khaddam.
