Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam stressed during his meeting with Iranian First Vice President Hassan Habibi in Tehran that the United Nations “is the only reference for settling problems related to Palestine.” Khaddam later met with Iranian President Mohammad Khatami and said that he had brought him a message from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad related to “the turbulent situation in the Middle East.”
