As part of the escalation of tension and confrontation between Egypt and Libya, which began with Egypt declaring a state of emergency on the borders, a semi-official Egyptian magazine stated that Libya has positioned Soviet-made “Frog” missiles behind its borders, targeting Egyptian cities.
According to “Rose al-Youssef,” the missiles are managed by military experts who previously worked in Egypt before being expelled in 1972. The magazine pointed out that the Soviets are trying to teach Sadat a lesson through Libya in response to Egypt’s cancellation of the Egyptian-Soviet Friendship Treaty.
Regarding the Conference of Resilience and Confrontation convened at the request of Libya to discuss the situation resulting from Egypt’s declaration of a state of emergency, Syrian Foreign Minister Abdul-Halim Khaddam announced upon his arrival in Tripoli that the political committee would take a unified stance against the aggressive plans of the Egyptian president against the Arab people of Libya after declaring a state of emergency and mobilizing forces along the border with Libya. Abdulmohsen Abu Mezar, the official spokesperson for the Palestine Liberation Organization, stated that the Front of Resilience is obligated to confront the Sadaatist colonial attacks launched against the Arab nation.
In Aden, the South Yemeni President Ali Nasser Mohammed declared his country’s support for Libya in its current conflict with Egypt.
