Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Syria initiated coordinated efforts yesterday to form an Arab stance in dealing with the repercussions of the New York and Washington bombings and their implications for the Arab region, particularly in connection with the Palestinian issue.

In this context, Syrian Vice President Abdul Haleem Khaddam and Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher arrived in Riyadh yesterday in two short visits to deliver messages from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Fahd bin Abdulaziz, and Crown Prince Abdullah.

An Arab diplomatic source in Riyadh stated that the Syrian Vice President and the Foreign Ministers of Egypt and Saudi Arabia, Prince Saud al-Faisal, started a meeting in Riyadh last night. The diplomat did not disclose the content of the talks in this trilateral meeting in his statement to Agence France-Presse.
