Abdel Halim Khaddam, the former Vice President of Syria, delivered a message to the Syrian people regarding the current situation. He considered that “no people in the modern era have been subjected to crimes of genocide, mass murder, humiliation, displacement, imprisonment, and the destruction of economic and urban structures in most regions as the Syrian people have by the ruling regime led by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, the partner in the alliance with Russia and Iran.” He pointed out that “Assad’s decision to use chemical weapons on the scale he used is part of a Russian-Iranian decision, and Bashar al-Assad cannot make this decision independently of his main allies who guarantee his continuity.”

Khaddam questioned whether there is a Russian-American agreement and whether the U.S. administration has given promises to the Iranian president aimed at creating conflict in Iran.

He emphasized that “when a people face external or internal aggression, the members of this people, with all their social, political, and national components, quickly unify their ranks, mobilize energies and forces to confront aggression, and work to achieve the goals of the nation in development, progress, and prosperity. They enhance their capabilities to meet the requirements of defending the homeland, protecting the country, and ensuring the security of the people.” He pointed out that “Syria’s interest requires holding a comprehensive national conference that includes all components of the Syrian people—political, military, and social—to discuss the current situation, how to overcome it, and explore the basic outlines for Syria after the fall of the regime. It should choose an interim leadership that truly represents the Syrian people within the current circumstances.”

Khaddam urged all stakeholders to make every effort to unify all forces fighting to overthrow the regime and to unite their efforts to achieve victory.
