Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam arrives in the Sultanate of Oman

Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam arrived in the Sultanate of Oman today for a two-day visit during which he will hold talks with senior Omani officials. During his meeting later today with the Sultan of Oman, Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Khaddam is scheduled to discuss a number of regional and international issues, most notably the situation in Iraq. And the Palestinian territories after the recent Israeli escalation against Palestinian President Yasser Arafat

The Omani and Syrian sides are also discussing developing bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields, especially the economic aspect.

The Syrian Vice President's visit to the Sultanate of Oman comes as part of a tour he is undertaking in a number of countries in the region.

It is noteworthy that trade exchange between the Sultanate of Oman and Syria last year 2002 amounted to more than 30 million dollars
