Former Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam described President Bashar al-Assad as a ‘dictator who does not learn from the experiences of his predecessors who were uprooted from power by popular revolutions.’
He added in an interview with Al-Seyassah newspaper: Bashar was instilled by the hypocrites around him with the saying that the people love him, and he is unable, due to his arrogance and the nature of his psychological makeup, to distinguish between right and wrong.
He also ruled out that Assad would carry out a coup against figures close to the ruling circles, such as Rami, Hafez Makhlouf, and his brother Maher, adding, “I do not expect Bashar to carry out a coup against his brother, nor for Maher to do so, and if tension arises between them, one of them will work to kill the other.”
