“The Syrian Salvation Front holds its founding conference in London.”

“The Syrian National Salvation Front, a Syrian opposition group comprising former Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam and the Muslim Brotherhood, held a meeting in London yesterday to discuss an action plan aimed at democratic change in Syria.

The founding conference of the Syrian National Salvation Front, which will take place over two days at the Dorchester Hotel in the heart of the British capital, will bring together around fifty opposition figures, including representatives from Kurdish parties, independents, and communists, in addition to Khaddam and the Secretary-General of the Muslim Brotherhood, Ali Sadreddine al-Bayanouni.

In his opening speech at the meeting, Khaddam stated that change and a constitution within a democratic framework are necessary to advance Syria on the path to independence. He warned that Syria could become prey for opportunists and emphasized that the current Syrian regime is an autocratic, family-run, and corrupt regime that spreads fear. He insisted that there is no choice for Syrians other than to choose the path of change and democracy. He added that the regime is in decline because when those who express their opinions and ideas are imprisoned, and when words become more powerful than the sword, it means that the regime is in decline. However, he acknowledged that there are significant challenges on the path of change that we must confront.

On the other hand, Ali Sadreddine al-Bayanouni announced at the opening of the meeting that this founding conference of the Syrian National Salvation Front aims to develop a national program to change the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Furthermore, the Syrian National Salvation Front announced yesterday that 15 opposition figures and human rights activists detained in Syria began a hunger strike last Tuesday, demanding their release. Among the hunger strikers are journalist Michel Kilo, writer Ali Abdullah, a member of civil society awakening committees in Syria, and his son Muhammad Ali Abdullah.”
