Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized the significance of Moscow’s longstanding and robust relations with Syria, stating that these relations play a crucial role in the conflict-ridden Middle East.
Putin’s statement was made during his meeting with Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam in Moscow. The Russian President underscored the importance of Russian-Syrian ties, particularly in light of the complex situation prevailing in the Middle East, which is marked by the crises in Iraq and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
During his address, Putin also highlighted the significance of military-technical cooperation as a key component within the bilateral relationship.
Yesterday, Syrian Vice President Khaddam arrived in Moscow for talks that are expected to address the Iraqi crisis, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as well as counterterrorism efforts.
Earlier today, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad indefinitely postponed his scheduled visit to Iran, which was slated for Wednesday. The visit aimed to facilitate discussions between President al-Assad and his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Khatami, regarding the Iraq crisis.
