Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam arrived in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, where Colonel Muammar Gaddafi delivered a message from President Hafez al-Assad.

Khaddam, who is visiting Libya as part of a tour accompanied by Foreign Minister Farouk Al-Sharaa to the Maghreb countries, indicated that the message relates to the current conditions in the region and the latest developments in the arena of the Arab-Israeli conflict and the peace process.

He explained that he would meet Gaddafi and exchange views with him on a number of issues of common interest and challenges facing the Arab nation

Upon their arrival, Khaddam and Al-Sharaa were received by Mustafa Al-Kharroubi, a member of the Revolutionary Command Council in Libya, and a number of Libyan officials.

Khaddam and Al-Sharaa arrived yesterday afternoon at Djerba Airport in Tunisia on their way to Libya after concluding a visit to Morocco.
Yesterday, Khaddam delivered a message from Al-Assad to Moroccan King Hassan II. Moroccan Prime Minister Abdellatif Filali described the talks between Khaddam and King Hassan II as very good, and Filali expressed his country’s support for Syria and his support for its position to resume negotiations on the Syrian track from the point at which they stopped.

Upon his arrival in Rabat yesterday, Khaddam called on the United States to put pressure on Israel to resume negotiations. Khaddam confirmed that Syria is ready to initiate negotiations with Israel on the condition that they start from the point where they stopped last year.

The Syrian delegation has so far visited Algeria, Mauritania and Morocco. Khaddam and Al-Sharaa previously visited the six countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council to explain the Syrian position on the recent developments
