Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam affirmed that all matters related to the constitutional, legal, and political structure of Iraq are determined by the Iraqi people through free elections. Khaddam stated in remarks today after meeting with a delegation from the tribes of Iraq, led by Mohammad Tahir, “No one can adopt any viewpoint before the Iraqi people express their opinion on this matter.” This was in response to a question about the possibility of federalism in Iraq.

He pointed out the existing coordination between Damascus, Ankara, Tehran, and some Arab countries on this matter, emphasizing the concern of all Arab countries and Iran about the situation in Iraq. They call for its liberation, the transfer of power to the Iraqi people, and the end of the occupation.

Responding to a question about Israel’s intention to establish settlements in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, the Syrian Vice President stated that it is part of Israel’s policy to thwart any peaceful direction in the region. He affirmed Israel’s continued hostility to peace and the realization of the Zionist project.
