Khaddam paid a brief visit to the United Arab Emirates

Syrian Foreign Minister Abdel Halim Khaddam paid a brief visit to the United Arab Emirates and returned home Sunday, the Emirates news agency (WAM) reported.

WAM said Khaddam delivered a message from Syrian President Hafez Assad to Emirates President Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, dealing with Middle East developments.

Arab Gulf states, particularly Saudi Arabia, have played a leading role in attempting to mediate the dispute between Yasser Arafat and Assad after the Palestinian leader was expelled from Syria last month.
