In an interview published yesterday in the “Iran News” newspaper, Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam issued a warning to Muslim nations regarding any involvement in the American campaign against Afghanistan, asserting that such interference would only benefit Israel.

Khaddam emphasized that the war in Afghanistan holds a distinctive nature as it is an American-led effort targeting the Taliban and Al-Qaeda, with Osama bin Laden at the helm. He further stated that no Islamic country should engage in this conflict on any grounds, as the sole beneficiary would be Israel.

Regarding certain Arab and Islamic countries providing assistance to the American attacks under the guise of alliance, Khaddam mentioned that they had been cautioned against such a stance.

When asked about the possibility of the United States launching an operation against Syria and Lebanon, both of which are accused by Washington of harboring terrorist-supporting organizations, Khaddam expressed his belief that an American attack on Syria or Lebanon is unlikely.

He expressed concern over the pressure being exerted on Hezbollah under the pretext of its classification as a terrorist organization, which he considers a hostile act against Syria. Syria firmly opposes such actions by the United States and Israel.
