Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam said that his talks with Libyan officials showed that the Syrian ideas are the same as those put forward by the Saudi initiative. Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Tripoli, Libya today, he said, "We agree with the Saudi government on the restoration of the occupied Arab territories and the withdrawal of Israel to the borders of June 4, 1967, as well as the return of Palestinian refugees to their homes and the formation of an independent Palestinian state." The state and its capital is Jerusalem. He expressed his hope that everyone would participate in the success of the next Arab Summit Conference. He said that he would convey a message from the Syrian president to the Libyan leader about the Arab position and ways to make the summit a success.
