Informed sources have told “Elaf” that the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad is imminent. A Syrian opposition has asserted that there is a disintegration in the regime’s first circle. According to these sources, officers and dignitaries from the Alawite community in Syria have made the decision to remove President Bashar Al-Assad and his brother Maher from power, along with a group of more than 40 officers. They consider themselves directly responsible for the mass killing in Syria since the beginning of the wave of protests on March 15. When asked how long it will take to implement this decision, the sources, who stressed anonymity, added, “Do not be surprised if it happens within days.” The reasons behind this decision are that the evolution of events in Syria has been studied and that the consequences, whatever they may be, will lead to the end of the regime. Therefore, the Alawites should not be blamed for the crimes committed against the Syrian people. This step will be like restoring things to normal and promoting national unity.
The former Vice President of Syria, Abdel Halim Khaddam, sent a televised message from Paris several days ago to the Syrian military and security establishment. In his message, he asked the sons of the institution, including officers and soldiers, to choose either to side with the people or bear the consequences of continuing to support the regime. Khaddam said in the text of his message, “Anyone who contributed to the killing and repression will be held accountable, but that does not mean that you should continue these crimes. Perhaps the Syrian people will forgive you if you stop such practices and return to the ranks of the people.” Khaddam has submitted a number of confessions expressing his willingness to appear, of his own free will, before any impartial national commission of inquiry after the change, or any commission of inquiry or an Arab, regional, or international court in any charge brought against him, whether in the matter of his responsibility as part of the Syrian regime or charges of corruption. Khaddam stressed in his confessions, “Yes, I was part of the system and I take responsibility.” He also stressed that he does not want to return to political life in Syria and will not assume any political or party position after the change. He has decided to withdraw from political action since he submitted his resignation from his political and party positions at the party conference in 2005 before going into voluntary exile in Paris.
The political generation’s servants called on the “parents” to leave the opportunity and space for the new generations of young people because they created the revolution and they are the ones who should and deserve to lead the construction process, stressing that the revolution is a youth revolution.
