The delegation of the Islamic Meeting to Damascus, consisting of MPs Zaki Muzaboudi and Jamil Kabbi, returned to Beirut in the evening after a 24-hour visit. During the visit, they held a three-hour meeting with the Syrian Vice President, Mr. Abdel Halim Khaddam. Upon the delegation’s return, Mr. Kabbi announced that the meritorious work hour had passed, and we have witnessed contacts with the main parties and heard from other parties. We were convinced that everyone is working towards achieving the constitutional entitlement in accordance with legislative principles and in a legitimate manner. Our talks today in Damascus, Dr. Zaki Mazboudawi and I, are part of the movement carried out by representatives of the Islamic Meeting, which we proudly refer to as “Bake it and be proud of it.” From our position of parliamentary and personal responsibility, we spent three hours with His Excellency the Vice President of the Syrian Arab Republic, Mr. Abdel Halim Khaddam, in an evaluation session for the emergency turn in the approach to governance. This turn began with the extraordinary meetings during the Algiers Summit and concluded with the visit of the Personal Representative of the President of the Republic, Minister of Health and Finance, to Damascus, where he met with His Excellency President Hafez Al-Assad. The period leading up to the constitutional due date has exceeded the realm of empty promises and mere intentions. Everyone is eagerly awaiting positive action in the country, as the available opportunities should not be wasted.
