A meeting of the opposition National Salvation Front in Syria is being held in London to approve a plan that it said aims to bring about democratic change in the country
The meeting of the front continues, which includes the banned Muslim Brotherhood, former Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam, in addition to opposition figures from Kurdish parties, independents and communists.
The General Controller of the Brotherhood in Syria, Ali Sadr al-Din al-Bayanouni, said at the opening of the session that this “founding conference” in the National Salvation Front aims to develop a national program to change “the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.”
For his part, Khaddam - a former vice president of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad before he defected from the regime months ago and resides in Paris - said, “Change and the constitution in a democratic system are necessary for Syria’s advancement and progress on the path to independence.”
