Jacques Chirac, the French President, welcomed Abdel Halim Khaddam, the Syrian Vice President, and Farouq El-Shara, the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs, in Paris on the 7th of this month. The discussions primarily focused on the regional developments and the peace process. Khaddam emphasized during the talks that Israel faces no obstacles in unconditionally withdrawing from southern Lebanon. However, if Israel attempts to maneuver and pursue unilateral solutions, it will undoubtedly meet failure.
