Abdel Halim Khaddam, the Syrian Vice President, completed an Arab tour that included the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the countries of the Arab Maghreb Union, during which the leaders of these countries delivered messages from Hafez al-Assad, the Syrian President, stressing the importance of not holding the Middle East and North Africa Economic Conference scheduled to be hosted by Qatar in October. Next November, in compliance with Arab resolutions calling for freezing normalization with Israel until it stops settlement activity in Jerusalem and the West Bank and confirms its commitment to the foundations of the peace process. The messages also include calls to deal with the issue of Turkish-Israeli military cooperation and the Turkish invasion of northern Iraq
