During his meeting with Iranian First Vice President Hassan Habibi in Tehran, Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam emphasized that the United Nations “serves as the sole authority for resolving issues concerning Palestine.” Khaddam later had a meeting with Iranian President Mohammad Khatami and conveyed a message from Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad regarding “the challenging circumstances prevailing in the Middle East.”
