Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam met with Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi today upon his arrival in Tripoli.

Prior to the commencement of the talks, Khaddam informed reporters that he was carrying a “personal message” from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to Gaddafi, although he did not disclose its specific content.

According to the official Syrian newspaper Al-Thawra, the Syrian vice president is currently visiting Libya and Algeria, where he has delivered two letters to the leaders of both countries ahead of the upcoming Arab summit in Beirut, scheduled for March 27 and 28. The purpose of these visits is to coordinate positions in relation to the Saudi peace initiative, which will be discussed during the summit.

In an article published by the government newspaper “Tishreen,” Arab leaders are urged to reaffirm their loyalty and commitment to international legitimacy without compromising any of their rights. The article emphasizes the necessity of achieving a just and comprehensive peace before engaging in any negotiations or agreements with the Israeli enemy. It stresses that the Zionist danger affects all Arabs without exception and calls for a united and sincere call for Arab solidarity to address this common threat.

Al-Thawra reports that the upcoming summit conference will underscore the international community’s, and particularly the United States’, responsibility to find a fair and comprehensive solution to the regional crisis. It will also express the absolute rejection, on behalf of the Arab nation, of any hostile actions targeting Arab countries, with a particular emphasis on Iraq.
