The sources have learned that the presidents Elias El-Hrawi and Hafez al-Assad are meeting today for a summit on current issues in the region. Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam will receive the Lebanese President at the Lebanese-Syrian border, and they will head to Damascus to meet with President Assad.

In this context, President Omar Karami visited the Syrian capital yesterday, where he met with Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam and senior Syrian officials to consult on the latest developments, especially those related to the upcoming parliamentary elections. He will return to Tripoli this morning.

Karami’s visitors during the few hours preceding this visit revealed that he has a “veto” on the possibility of cooperation with certain individuals proposed for a coalition list with Prime Minister Hariri. Whether to cooperate with them or stop cooperating with others in exchange. It should be noted that no meeting has taken place so far with MP Sleiman Frangieh, who is a natural ally for consultation on this matter, despite information indicating that Frangieh has made progress in understanding with the Prime Minister on this issue.

Northern sources revealed that President Karami’s office will witness a series of meetings on this matter between August 8 and 10.

Meanwhile, government sources close to Prime Minister Hariri revealed that he will not make a final decision on his nomination in Beirut or its absence until the period from August 8 to 10, without clarifying the meaning of this timing.
