An official Iranian source reported on Monday that the Syrian Vice President, Abdul-Halim Khaddam, is expected to arrive in Tehran tomorrow, Tuesday, for an official visit during which he will hold talks with Iranian officials.

The source added that the First Vice President of Iran, Hassan Habibi, will receive Khaddam, who will later hold talks with Iranian President Mohammad Khatami, without specifying the duration of the visit.

Iranian and Syrian officials, especially Vice President Khaddam, regularly meet to consult on bilateral relations and the situation in the Middle East region.

On Saturday, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized the “Israeli acts of violence against the Palestinians” and called on the international community to take action to prevent them.

Iran, which does not recognize Israel and supports radical Palestinian movements opposed to the peace process, has been calling for the trial of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon as a “war criminal” for several days.
