Iraqi Vice President Ibrahim Al-Jaafari has urged Syria to assist Iraq in restoring stability, enabling it to hold its first democratic elections next month. Following discussions with his Syrian counterpart Abdel Halim Khaddam in Damascus, Al-Jaafari announced Iraq’s desire to support Syria in its political process and stabilize the security situation within Iraq.

He also emphasized the need for Syria to monitor its borders to prevent any infiltration into Iraq. On Monday, Al-Jaafari met with President Bashar Al-Assad in Damascus, where Assad reiterated Syria’s unwavering support for Iraq’s independence and territorial integrity, as reported by the official Syrian news agency, SANA.
