President Al-Hoss returned yesterday afternoon from Damascus after a surprise visit during which he engaged in a two-hour discussion with Syrian Vice President Mr. Abdel Halim Khaddam. The talks primarily focused on the current developments in the Lebanese arena, particularly the deteriorating security situation in the southern suburb. Al-Hoss emphasized that the suburb’s situation was a significant part of his discussions with Mr. Abdel Halim Khaddam, as they all shared direct concern for the severe tragedy faced by the suburb and its inhabitants. Their foremost priority is to halt the devastating violence and rescue people from the perils of this ongoing war.

The meeting with Mr. Khaddam provided an opportunity to explore various possibilities for addressing this issue. Al-Hoss utilized the occasion to discuss with Mr. Khaddam the extent of the renewed and perilous Israeli attack on the Arqoub area, specifically the town of Shabaa. They delved into Lebanon’s international efforts and response to this dangerous Israeli escalation, as well as the anticipated support from friendly and brotherly nations along this path. They also considered the expected steps to be taken in the suburb.
