On Thursday morning, Mr. George Hawi, the Secretary General of the Lebanese Communist Party, visited the Syrian capital and met with Syrian Vice President Mr. Abdel Halim Khaddam. During their meeting, he discussed the current political situation and developments in the Lebanese arena. The focus was on finding ways to support the Lebanese legitimacy represented by President Elias Hraoui and the Government of National Accord, led by Dr. Salim Al-Hoss, in order to extend their influence over Lebanese territory. The objective was to put an end to the tragic situation in Lebanon and halt the violence and bloodshed occurring on its soil. Furthermore, the discussion emphasized the importance of ending the rebellion led by Aoun and his followers, as any hindrance or obstruction to the peace process would only reinforce division, fragmentation, and the continued Israeli occupation of Lebanese territory.
