Egypt continued its intensive political efforts to coordinate Arab and Islamic positions regarding the international and regional developments that emerged after September 11. President Hosni Mubarak met with Abdul Halim Khaddam, and his Foreign Minister, Ahmed Maher, is carrying a message from Mubarak to the leaders of the Arab world, specifically Saudi Arabia.

The Middle East News Agency of Egypt reported that Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher will head to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia today, carrying a message from President Hosni Mubarak to King Fahd regarding the global crisis that arose after the attacks on September 11 in the United States.

The agency stated that during this visit, which will last a few hours, Maher will hold discussions with Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and his counterpart Saud al-Faisal.

It was clarified that Maher will brief the Saudi officials on the results of his visit to the United States last week and the communications carried out by President Mubarak recently on both the Arab and international fronts.

Yesterday, Mubarak received Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam, who visited Cairo and held discussions on “the latest global and regional developments as well as the Palestinian issue.”

Khaddam did not provide any statements immediately after the meeting with Mubarak.
