Syrian Vice-President Abd al-Halim Khaddam and his delegation returned to Damascus on Sunday (June 25) after leading the Syrian Arab side to meetings in Tehran of the Higher Syrian-Iranian Joint Committee.
Iranian President Hashemi-Rafsanjani received Khaddam who conveyed a message to him from Syrian President Hafiz al-Asad.
In statements to the Syrian and Iranian media at Tehran airport, Khaddam expressed pleasure at meeting President Rafsanjani and his satisfaction with the talks.
He said the joint committee meetings discussed the international and regional situation, the middle east peace process and bilateral relations.
Asked about the developments of the peace process, Khaddam said thus far there had not been any agreement and no agreement would be reached without full Israeli withdrawal to the June 4 1967 borders.
