Discussion between Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Reza Aref on relations between Damascus and Tehran, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The Iranian news agency reported that “Khaddam immediately upon arrival here in an unannounced visit held talks with Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref focusing on ways to develop bilateral relations and the latest regional developments, especially in Iraq and Palestine.

” Khaddam is scheduled to meet during his two-day visit with senior Iranian officials, including President Mohammad Khatami and Expediency Council Chairman Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani. Earlier today, Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam arrived here leading a high-level official delegation for discussions with Iranian officials expected to focus on developments in Iraq, Palestine, and bilateral relations.
