Yesterday, Vice President Abdul-Halim Khaddam received Patriarch Aram I, the Armenian Orthodox Patriarch, accompanied by the Deputy Patriarch of the Archdiocese of Damascus, Bishop Sebouh Sarkissian. During the meeting, they discussed the situation in the region and the aggressive Israeli policy that led to the cessation of the peace process. Catholicos Aram I praised Syria’s role and its President, Hafez al-Assad.

Vice President Abdul-Halim Khaddam also received the Australian parliamentary delegation led by Oula Mikhael and the delegation of the World Council of Lebanese Expatriates in Australia. The discussions covered the situation in the region and the stagnation of the peace process due to Israeli expansionist policies, the obstinacy of the Israeli government, its refusal to implement Security Council resolutions, and its rejection of the peace reference. The meeting was attended by Shaker Saeed, the head of the Committee on Arab and Foreign Affairs in the People’s Council, and People’s Council member Hassan Sibahi.
