Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam and the head of the political department of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Farouq Al-Qaddoumi, have affirmed their commitment to resistance, considering it a “legitimate right to defend oneself” against the “Israeli occupation.”

According to Anwar Abdel Hadi, Kaddoumi’s media advisor, in a statement to Agence France Presse, Khaddam and Kaddoumi held talks yesterday regarding the “developments in the occupied territories in light of the Israeli crimes committed against the Palestinian people.”

They also discussed Arab action in the upcoming period to bring an end to Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s government and Israeli practices of killing and destruction. Strengthening Palestinian unity was highlighted as a necessity to confront Israeli challenges.

Khaddam and Qaddoumi emphasized their commitment to resistance, viewing it as a legitimate right to defend oneself against the Israeli occupation.

Furthermore, they regarded Sharon’s presence as a danger to both America and the Israeli people, and they called upon both the Israeli and American populations to understand their own interests.

On a different note, seven Palestinian factions in Damascus yesterday called for the continuation of the armed struggle against Israel. They emphasized that the meetings of the International Quartet on the Middle East and the meetings of Arab ministers with American President George Bush have not yielded any results.
