Syrian Foreign Minister Abdul Halim Khaddam flew to the United Arab Emirates Monday on the fifth leg of a tour designed to rally support for Syria’s position in talks on troop withdrawalsfrom Lebanon.
The Emirates news agency WAM said Khaddam, arriving from Kuwait, carried a message to the Emirates’ ruler, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan, from Syrian President Hafez Assad.
Khaddam earlier visited Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Qatar. There was no word on what his next stop would be.
In Kuwait, Khaddam said his trip dealt with regional problems, ‘particularly the current situation in Lebanon and attempts by the Israeli enemy to impose its conditions on the Lebanese state.’
