Syrian Foreign Minister Abdul Alim Khaddam, who arrived late at the meeting after making a stop in Moscow to discuss the Lebanese situation with Soviet officials, called on the League to ‘take clear and meaningful decision for all the world to see’ and agree on a date for an emergency summit of League heads of state.
He applauded the U.N. Security Council resolution sponsored by France calling for a disengagement of all forces around Beirut. The resolution was vetoed by the United States Saturday.
Although no communique was released at the end of the meeting, Arab League representatives announced the formation of a ministerial commission to work toward a resolution of the Lebanese situation.
