Former Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam has vowed to work from exile towards overthrowing President Bashar al-Assad’s regime. He stated, “I was involved in building this regime, and I possess the knowledge to dismantle it.” Khaddam highlighted that Assad’s decision to push for an extension of President Lahoud’s term resulted in the assassination of Hariri. In response to Assad’s denial of threatening Hariri, he questioned the whereabouts of the alleged recording of their bilateral meeting and why it had not been made public. Additionally, he refuted claims of a deal with the Americans, stating that they were “embroiled in the Iraqi quagmire.” It was notable that Rifat Al-Assad demanded a return to Syria the previous night. He condemned the “settling of old scores,” referring to Khaddam.
