Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam expressed his country’s support for the Palestinian Intifada and emphasized the importance of severing relations between Arab countries and Israel during his meeting with Nayef Hawatmeh, the Secretary General of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

In a statement issued by the Front, it was mentioned that “the Syrian vice president reaffirmed Syria’s backing for the uprising for independence, the necessity of implementing the Arab summit decisions, supporting the Arab street, and cutting off all forms of relations with Israel.”

During the Arab summit held in Cairo on October 21 and 22, Arab countries were urged to sever their ties with the Israeli state.

The statement from the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine further highlighted that Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam and Secretary General Nayef Hawatmeh discussed the need to rectify Palestinian-Syrian relations and enhance mutual solidarity between occupied Palestine and the Arab nations. The goal was to strengthen resilience and sustain the Intifada until the end of Israeli occupation, while building genuine and concrete Arab unity to halt Israeli aggression. The two sides also deliberated on the American pressure to halt the Intifada under the pretext of reducing violence.
