Khaddam meets with the Deputy Speaker of the Italian House of Representatives, Mr. Clemente Mastell

Syrian officials discussed today with the Deputy Speaker of the Italian Parliament, Mr. Clemente Mastella, and his accompanying delegation, the latest developments in the Middle East, particularly regarding the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the threats against Iraq.

An official Syrian source stated that Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam, Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa Miro, Abdullah Al-Ahmar, Assistant Secretary-General of the Ba’ath Party, and Abdel Qader Qadoura, the President of the People’s Council, each separately met with the Italian official. During these meetings, both sides emphasized the seriousness of any military action against Iraq as a threat to the security and stability of the region.

The meeting also underscored the necessity of enabling the Palestinian people to regain their rights, establish their independent state, and called for a peaceful resolution to the Iraqi issue. Both sides emphasized the importance of preserving the unity and territorial integrity of Iraq.

The Italian official expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people and their just struggle for the liberation of their occupied lands. He also reiterated his opposition to the unilateral policies pursued by the United States and their negative impact on global security and stability.
