Former Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam stated that the Syrian National Council, which seeks to become the sole opposition front, has no right to claim representation of the entire Syrian opposition or to express the demands of the Syrian people as a whole.

Khaddam pointed out that only the Syrian protesters inside the country and all members of the Syrian people in various regions have the right to choose who represents them and expresses their demands for freedom, democracy, and the overthrow of the regime.

He downplayed the importance of the participation of the Local Coordination Committees in the National Council, stating that all its prominent figures reside abroad.
