Former Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam stated that talks are taking place between various opposition factions in Damascus to agree on a move aimed at bringing about peaceful political change in Syria.

Khaddam said in an interview with the Elaph website and reported by Al-Nahar newspaper published yesterday, “There is a discussion currently taking place between representatives of political, intellectual, cultural and social movements, and the goal is to establish a unified, comprehensive opposition that represents everyone.” Khaddam added, “The opposition abroad is working to bring about change from within through peaceful and democratic means,” noting that “the era of coups is over, and we are not advocates of using the army and armed forces to achieve change.” He pointed out that no action has been decided yet, stressing that “our action is purely Syrian and there are no external threads managing it.”
