In a meeting with branch secretaries and governors attended by the President of the People’s Council, Abdul Qader Qadoura, and the Prime Minister, Mahmoud al-Zu’bi, as well as ministers, deputies, and other personalities, the former Syrian Vice President, Mr. Abdul-Halim Khaddam, discussed the repercussions of the Arab situation. He emphasized the need to find common ground in the current circumstances, pointing out the weakness and disintegration characterizing the current Arab reality. He highlighted the importance, in these times, of safeguarding the national interests of the Arabs and preserving the goals of the threatened regime, which is facing challenges due to setbacks in the central Arab cause on multiple levels.

Mr. Khaddam also addressed the peace process and the efforts exerted to push it forward, aiming to achieve the objective conditions for a just and comprehensive peace in the region. He affirmed Syria’s constants regarding the peace process, which are based on the implementation of international legitimacy resolutions to achieve the complete Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Golan Heights and from all Lebanese territory until the June 4, 1967 lines. He also emphasized the establishment of parallel, balanced, and equal security arrangements on both sides of those lines.

He praised the numerous achievements made during a quarter-century of the corrective movement led by President Assad, highlighting national unity, internal front cohesion, and national rallying around the leadership. In conclusion, Mr. Khaddam responded to questions from the audience.
