Abdul-Halim Khaddam, the former Vice President of Syria, affirmed that establishing a safe zone in Syria does not serve the purpose and is not sufficient to solve the problems of the Syrians.

Khaddam explained in a statement to “Al Khaleej Online” that “the Syrian reality cannot be solved partially; this would only protect neighboring countries and does not provide a solution to the issues faced by the Syrian revolution. The only solution is the immediate overthrow of the entire Assad regime.”

Turkey is pushing for the creation of a safe zone in northern Syria, and its officials emphasize that the purpose is to ensure the stay of Syrian refugees in their homeland, serving as a safe haven for those facing attacks from both the regime and terrorist groups.

Khaddam is one of the prominent aides to the former Syrian President Hafez al-Assad. He held various government positions before defecting from the regime in 2005 due to political disagreements with Bashar al-Assad regarding Syria’s foreign policy. He sought refuge in France and established the “National Salvation Front,” which included several Syrian opposition figures.
