Abdel Halim Khaddam, the former vice president of Syria from Paris, stated that the Syrian regime is no longer capable of continuing at present, and it persists in repression and killing. He asserted that the Syrian regime will fall within a few months, citing the Syrian army starting to disintegrate and feel fatigue, while loyal officers are questioning where Bashar al-Assad, his brother Maher, and their family are leading them.

During his interview from Paris with the Egyptian channel “Al-Hayat 1,” Khaddam pointed out that the Assad regime is trying to appear strong but is fearful, and its fate is the fate of tyrants worldwide. As for the Syrian people, he believed they are capable of continuing and facing challenges with the strength of resilience and sacrifice from the Syrian revolutionary forces.

Khaddam noted that the request to send Arab forces to Syria is reminiscent of the situation in Lebanon during the civil war, implying a continuation of the bloodshed. He mentioned negative outcomes, including giving the regime more opportunities and schemes to kill innocent Syrian civilians. He clarified that the Syrian crisis will only be resolved through international intervention. He emphasized that the tragic situation in Syria requires pressure on major powers to make an international decision, rejecting the proposal for Arab intervention in both form and substance. Therefore, when major powers see the Arab League hesitant and unable to make a decision, they will not intervene to solve the crisis.

He stated, “The Arab League must exert pressure on major powers to form an international coalition that moves militarily to resolve the Syrian crisis.”
