Khaddam will arrive in Moscow tomorrow for talks with senior Russian officials.

It was reported here today that the former Syrian Vice President, Abdelhalim Khaddam, will visit Moscow tomorrow for talks with senior Russian officials discussing bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest.

The news agency “Itar Tass” reported today that Khaddam will hold discussions with the Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov and the Chairman of the State Duma Gennady Seleznyov, among other senior officials.

The agency added that the Russian and Syrian sides will discuss developments in the Middle East, especially the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as well as the situation around Iraq, in addition to issues related to the cooperation between the two countries in the fight against terrorism.

Quoting a Russian source described as an expert in foreign policy, the agency reported that both sides will exchange views on the prospects of resuming negotiations on the Syrian-Israeli and Lebanese-Israeli tracks.

The source mentioned that Syria is considered one of the prominent countries in the Middle East, and its voice is heard in both the Arab and Islamic worlds.

The visit of Khaddam will contribute to deepening the Syrian-Russian friendship characterized by a high level of mutual understanding and respect for interests.

The source stated that the bilateral talks are expected to also pave the way for the development of economic and trade relations between Moscow and Damascus.
