Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam is scheduled to hold talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak tomorrow during a short visit to Egypt as part of Arab efforts to deal with current developments in the region. An Egyptian official source predicts that Khaddam’s talks with President Mubarak will focus on the situation in the regional and international arena in light of the recent developments related to the attacks on the United States and the impact of these events on the region.

The source adds that Khaddam’s talks come within the framework of continuous consultation and coordination between Cairo and Damascus, especially with regard to fateful issues. President Mubarak is expected to brief Khaddam on the results of his contacts and talks during his recent European tour, which focused on discussing the developments of the current situation and the possibility of holding an international conference to combat terrorism. Khaddam will also hold talks with Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Atif Ebeid on bilateral relations and ways to move them forward in various fields.

Khaddam’s visit to Egypt follows a day of talks held by Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat with President Mubarak, where developments in the Palestinian territories were discussed. It is reported that Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad paid a quick visit to the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on the 19th of this month where he held talks with President Mubarak on the developments of current issues.
