Former Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam indicated in a message to the Syrian people that “the conflicts led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of this people and led to the migration of millions abroad to live in tragic conditions, and in the end these conflicts will lead to tearing the country apart into sectarian mini-states.” And ethnicity was never present in the dictionary of the Syrian people,” stressing that “Syria was built on the shoulders of its Muslim sons, including Sunnis, Alawites, Shiites, Ismailis, monotheists, and Christian brothers of all sects. It was also built on the sons of Arabs, Kurds, Turkmen, and Assyrians.”
Khaddam said, “What we are witnessing today in terms of plots to attack this Syrian fabric will inevitably lead to the end of the Syria in which we lived, loved, and were loved. I address my appeal to our one and united Syrian people to work to restore cohesion among all Syrians,” stressing that “attempts to divide Syria into mini-states will not "Succeed as the unity of the Syrian people will curb all the conspiracies being hatched against our country and our people."
