Dear people in our beloved Syria
On this blessed day, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to you on Eid Al-Fitr. The longing for our country deeply moves me, and I implore God to restore it to our people, as well as to the Arab and Islamic worlds, with prosperity and peace of mind.
For many years, our country has been plagued by depression under a system that has allowed taboos, suppressed freedoms, violated dignity, spread debauchery and corruption, instilled fear, and inflicted painful suffering upon our people.
The great tragedy of Syria lies in the fact that its ruler, an authoritarian figure, fails to discern between right and wrong, justice and injustice, what is permissible and what is forbidden, and honesty and deceit. Furthermore, he underestimates the people and directs the security services to safeguard his tyranny and corruption.
Brothers, reflect upon this: after six years of assuming leadership of the country, what has Bashar Al-Assad accomplished other than spreading corruption, intensifying suffering, and making misguided decisions that have weakened national unity, isolated Syria in the Arab and international arena, and undermined its ability to reclaim the Golan Heights and support our Palestinian brethren?
I write this letter to reassure you that the corrupt and authoritarian regime is teetering on the brink of collapse. Soon, the ruler will witness the opportunists and hypocrites who surrounded him abandoning him, leaving only the corrupt family and their loyalists to face justice.
People of my beloved country, the forthcoming change will not entail replacing one ruler with another; rather, it will entail replacing an individual’s authoritarian system with a democratic one, wherein you, the people, are the source and masters of authority. It will be a qualitative change that rejuvenates and reinstates Syria to its rightful position.
The democratic system, which will be established through your choice, must address the following crucial issues in a comprehensive and synchronized manner:
• Political reform should guarantee public and individual freedoms, ensure fundamental and equal rights for all citizens without discrimination, foster freedom of political action, enable the formation of political parties, and safeguard media freedom. Additionally, a new electoral law should be implemented to allow people to freely choose their constitutional institutions.
• Economic reform should tackle the root causes of economic issues through a prepared program that promotes economic development, removes obstacles hindering progress, encourages investment, liberates the national economy from the restrictions that have caused crises, enhances the standard of living, achieves a balance between wages and prices, stimulates individual and collective initiatives, and generates employment opportunities. These reforms should make the state accountable for achieving economic and social equilibrium.
• State institutions, including the judicial and administrative bodies, should undergo comprehensive reforms aimed at eradicating corruption, ensuring equal opportunities in the selection of government employees, establishing a system of oversight and accountability, fostering professional competence, and implementing incentivization measures.
• Radical reforms in the education sector, at all levels, should be introduced to cultivate competent and capable generations capable of propelling the country forward, promoting progress and advancement, and fostering innovation and contribution.
• Special attention should be given to Syrian youth, enabling them to grasp hope and envision a prosperous future for the country, revitalizing their role in the Arab and international arenas.
Dear fellow citizens, on this blessed day, I urge you to prepare for a future day when you will actively participate in liberating the country from injustice, oppression, corruption, and tyranny, reclaiming your right to freely choose your constitutional institutions, and assuming leadership, control, and accountability within a democratic state where you are the ultimate authority.
May God bless you, beloved sons of Syria, and may we soon meet again in the proud city of Damascus, by the will of God.
