Lebanese Foreign Minister Jean Obeid stressed that the current phase requires increasing the level of consultation between Syria and Lebanon.

Obeid made these statements to journalists “We are continuously consulting with Syrians. This is normal, and the current phase necessitates raising the level of this consultation.”

When asked about the “road map,” Obeid mentioned that discussions on a peaceful settlement between Palestinians and Israelis are underway among their respective people. He stated, “We are not an obstacle to the well-being, fate, and decisions of the Palestinian people.”

He expressed his hope that the Palestinians would achieve a stable, independent, respected, and viable state.

However, Minister Obeid remarked, “The current situation in the Palestinian territories and the actions of the Israeli authorities are not promising.”

Obeid clarified, “We are not in a hurry if our opinions regarding the rights of Syria and Lebanon and the right of return of Palestinian refugees are not considered. The situation in the occupied Palestinian territories demands attention and caution.”

He emphasized that intimidation cannot transform wrong into right or vice versa. “We adhere to a degree of wisdom, steadfastness, and determination to secure our rights without losing sight of the circumstances and events unfolding around us.”

Furthermore, Minister Obeid condemned the bombing of Al-Mustaqbal television, describing it as a “reprehensible act that threatens security and serves foreign plans aimed at destabilizing Lebanon.”

He added, “I believe that expediting the identification, punishment, and accountability of the perpetrators is the best response, rather than mere condemnation.”

Obeid  held talks with Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam. Officially, they discussed the regional situation, the dangers facing the Arab world, particularly the Zionist threat, and the need to review the Arab stance to enhance cooperation and solidarity in confronting these perils.
